Regulations and Compliance

Disasters can strike anytime, rules and regulations can be a real puzzle, but compliance is not an option! American Scanning and Storage comply with the rules and regulations that govern numerous markets.

HIPPA Compliance
Consumer privacy has become such a serious issue that legislation has been enacted to protect our privacy. Companies therefore need to adhere to the following guidelines for shredding and storage regulations.

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 was set to protect patients' confidential information. Security standards were set that establish measures to ensure the security of healthcare information maintained by healthcare providers, healthcare institutions as well as health insurance companies.

American Scanning and Storage comply with these standards.

Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act
The Financial Modernization Act of 1999, commonly known as the GLB Act set provisions for the handling of financial information held by financial institutions. This act impacts realtors, mortgage and escrow companies, banks, securities firms and accountants to name a few.

Privacy Act
On-site shredding is the most secure method of information destruction. Material is stored in locking security containers until it is destroyed. This insures consumer privacy while the information is in house as well as from outside sources. Information is at risk from the moment it is picked up until destroyed. It may be months before the material is actually destroyed and recycled. For this reason, American Scanning and Storage offer on-site destruction and encourage our customers to witness the process. It is fast and the most economical way to beat crime, protect clients' information and your business.

Sarbanes-Oxley
This legislation establishes new and enhanced standards for all U.S. public companies and accounting firms. The Act introduces tighter controls for overseeing, regulating, inspecting, and disciplining accounting firms in their roles as auditors of public companies.

American Scanning and Storage complies with this act.
